Bitcoin ETFs Quietly Absorb Nearly $1 Billion in Days

US-listed spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds took in $189.3 million in net inflows on 18 August, lifting the month’s cumulative total to roughly $951 million. The session followed a $297.6 million inflow in the prior session, giving the two most recent trading days a combined $487 million, or more than half of August’s total, according to SoSoValue data.

BlackRock and Fidelity Drive the Two-Day Rebound

BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) led the 18 August session with $143.6 million in net inflows, while Fidelity’s Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC) added $23.9 million, Cointelegraph reportedThe prior session was even more concentrated: IBIT drew $160.23 million, and FBTC attracted $111.90 million, giving the two funds more than 90% of that day’s total.ARK 21Shares’ ARKB added $14.18 million and Morgan Stanley’s MSBT brought in $11.24 million in the earlier session, with no fund posting an outflow. Trading value across Bitcoin ETFs reached $2.12 billion that day, according to SoSoValue. The rebound followed three consecutive outflow sessions from 12 to 14 August that drained roughly $250 million. Cumulative net inflows into US spot Bitcoin ETFs since their January 2024 launch stood at approximately $52.28 billion after the latest session. Total net assets across the funds reached roughly $79.3 billion.

Ether ETFs Add $71.5 Million in the Same Session

Spot Ether ETFs recorded $71.5 million in net inflows on 18 August, bringing August’s Ether-side total to approximately $345 million. The Ether products have attracted steadier, smaller daily flows compared with Bitcoin ETFs this month, without the sharp outflow reversals that marked the Bitcoin funds in mid-August.Bitcoin traded at $64,234 at the time of the Cointelegraph report, while Ether was priced at $1,914, according to CoinGecko. Solana and XRP ETFs recorded no net flows on the same session, continuing a pattern in which newer altcoin ETF products have struggled to generate consistent daily participation.

Why the Concentration in Two Funds Matters

The two-day pattern reinforces a structural feature of the US spot Bitcoin ETF market: capital is heavily concentrated in BlackRock and Fidelity. Over the first three trading days of August alone, IBIT pulled in $479 million, lifting its cumulative net inflows to nearly $61 billion, according to Farside Investors data. That single-fund share is large enough to mask what the rest of the field is doing. On sessions where IBIT posts a large inflow, smaller funds can post net zero or even small outflows without the headline number showing stress. A single large redemption event at the dominant fund would hit the underlying Bitcoin order book harder than spread-out outflows across ten issuers, even if the dollar amount were the same.August’s roughly $951 million in net inflows already surpasses July’s full-month total of $172.4 million. A push past $1 billion would mark the first time since April that a single month cleared that threshold. The week ending 7 August saw $853.54 million in inflows, with IBIT capturing roughly $693 million of that figure, according to SoSoValue. Because the week spans the end of July and the start of August, its total should not be treated as part of August’s $951 million cumulative inflows.
