Bybit Reports $700 Million in Prevented Losses Due to AI Security Measures

Bybit, a prominent cryptocurrency exchange, has reported that its enhanced AI-driven security systems prevented potential losses of over $700 million in the first half of 2026. This announcement follows a significant security breach in February 2025, when hackers associated with North Korea's Lazarus Group stole approximately $1.46 billion worth of Ethereum from the exchange's cold wallet.

The exchange's H1 2026 Risk & Security Report, released on August 18, indicates that Bybit's upgraded defenses successfully blocked more than 30,000 suspicious withdrawal attempts, safeguarding nearly 20,000 users. The report highlights a dramatic reduction in vulnerability assessment times, which have been cut from two weeks to just two hours, thanks to automated auditing tools and AI-assisted threat detection.

During the reporting period, Bybit processed over 100,000 security alerts, with AI analysis identifying high-severity vulnerabilities at a rate three to five times faster than manual reviews. Despite encountering ten token-based security incidents, the exchange reported no losses on its platform. David Zong, Bybit's head of group risk control and security, emphasized the importance of both AI and human judgment in navigating the rapidly evolving cybersecurity landscape.

In addition to enhancing its security measures, Bybit has initiated legal action in U.S. courts against those responsible for the February 2025 hack, aiming to hold the perpetrators accountable for the significant financial losses incurred.
