Circle Acquires Tazapay for $400 Million to Enhance Global Payment Capabilities

Circle Internet Group, the issuer of the USDC stablecoin, has announced its acquisition of Singapore-based cross-border payments firm Tazapay for $400 million in stock. The final purchase price may vary based on Tazapay's debt and transaction expenses. Tazapay specializes in business-to-business payments, facilitating transactions for banks and financial technology companies across 100 markets worldwide.

Tazapay processes over $25 billion annually, with a significant portion of its transactions—60%—involving stablecoins. The firm holds operating licenses in Singapore, Canada, Australia, and the United States, and is currently seeking approvals in the European Union, Hong Kong, and the United Arab Emirates. This acquisition is expected to provide Circle with essential infrastructure to enhance the global movement of money using its USDC stablecoin.

The two companies have previously collaborated, with Tazapay assisting in the design of the Circle Payments Network. Circle's acquisition of Tazapay is part of a broader strategy that includes recent purchases, such as nearly 1,000 blockchain patents from IBM. The deal is anticipated to close in 2027, pending necessary regulatory approvals.
