      Maya Protocol Reports $1.7M Exploit

      • Maya Protocol reported a hack that resulted in about $1.7 million in crypto assets being drained from the protocol.
      • The bulk of the stolen funds is 20 BTC worth about $1.34 million.
      • The team halted the system and said it plans to compensate losses and restore the protocol’s operations.

Maya Protocol reported a suspected attack in which attackers stole about $1.7 million in crypto assets. Analysts at PeckShield reported this.

According to them, the bulk of the funds — 20 BTC worth about $1.34 million — is held at an address linked to a suspected attacker.

The Team Halted the Protocol’s Operations

Project founder Aaluxx Myth said that, in addition to the 20 BTC, the attacker allegedly stole other assets worth roughly $300,000. The Maya Protocol team fully halted the system to contain further losses. The developers plan to patch the vulnerability and then restore swap functionality.

Myth also reached out to the suspected attacker with an offer to take a bug bounty for the discovered vulnerability and return the stolen funds.

The team promised to publish details of the incident separately in a report following the investigation.

According to the Maya Protocol founder, a significant portion of the value of the stolen assets was lost to arbitrage bots and pool fees. This happened due to extremely high slippage during the transactions.

The team plans to contact participants who received part of the funds to try to find a way to return them.

Separately, Mif said that Maya Protocol plans to cover about $1.4 million needed to return 20 BTC to the pool. To do so, the team is considering using its own investments in Aztec Chain, as well as other funding sources.

According to the founder’s estimate, if the 20 BTC are returned to the pool, the CACAO token price could recover to around $0.115, which would make it possible to fully compensate participants for their losses.

For now, the team continues to investigate the incident and has promised to provide updates on the next steps.

As a reminder, we previously reported that the ONE token plunged by more than 50% amid the Harmony hack.
