SK Hynix Expands 1c DRAM Market Share, Aiming for Leadership by Early 2024

SK Hynix is significantly increasing its production share of 10-nanometer sixth-generation (1c) DRAM, with projections indicating a rise from approximately 13% in the second quarter of 2023 to around 34% by the fourth quarter. The company aims to surpass 1b DRAM's market share, which peaked at about 43% in the same period, and is expected to reach approximately 35% by the first quarter of 2024.

As of the end of the second quarter, Samsung Electronics held a 1c share of about 16%, while Micron had approximately 19%. SK Hynix's strategy includes ramping up production and transitioning to 1c DRAM in the second half of the year, with expectations to exceed Samsung's 31% share in the fourth quarter.

In its second-quarter earnings call, SK Hynix confirmed that substantial supply of 1c DRAM would begin in the second half of the year, driven by increased shipments and the introduction of HBM4 technology. Counterpoint Research estimates that SK Hynix currently holds about 50% of the HBM4 market share, with Samsung and Micron trailing at 20% and 10%, respectively.
