South Korea Establishes Fund to Invest Semiconductor Revenue in Youth and AI

The South Korean government is launching a new initiative called the "Future Response Fund" aimed at utilizing unexpected tax revenues from the semiconductor industry to support youth employment, affordable housing, and startups. Announced by President Lee Jae Myung, the fund is part of a broader strategy to convert temporary financial gains from the semiconductor boom into long-term economic policies.

The Future Response Fund will focus on domestic priorities, particularly targeting individuals in their 20s and 30s who have faced challenges related to unemployment and housing affordability. Labour Minister Kim Young-hoon highlighted the fund's commitment to educational programs and youth-focused startups during a meeting on July 9.

In addition to the Future Response Fund, the government has also established a $13.6 billion strategic investment account to be managed by the Korea Investment Corporation. This account aims to invest in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, critical infrastructure, and overseas supply chains, reflecting a comprehensive approach to enhancing South Korea's technological capabilities and economic resilience.
