Stablecoin Supply Declines by $414 Million Amid Rising DEX Trading Volumes

The total market capitalization of stablecoins decreased by $414.38 million during the week of September 7 to 13, 2026, according to a report from on-chain analytics firm Lookonchain. This decline, however, is accompanied by a nearly 8% increase in decentralized exchange (DEX) spot trading volumes, indicating a complex shift in market dynamics rather than a straightforward liquidity exodus.

Publicly traded companies demonstrated continued interest in Bitcoin, accumulating a net total of 1,615 BTC valued at approximately $126.15 million during the same week. Notably, the firm Strategy, led by Michael Saylor, reported no change in its Bitcoin holdings, while Bitmine made headlines by acquiring 27,180 ETH worth around $68.19 million.

Despite the significant drop in stablecoin supply, which may seem alarming, it represents only a small fraction of the overall stablecoin market, which exceeds $150 billion. The concurrent rise in Bitcoin purchases by public companies and the increase in DEX spot trading volumes suggest that some of the stablecoin reduction may be due to conversions rather than outright withdrawals. This pattern reflects ongoing uncertainty in the market, characterized by fluctuating stablecoin supply figures throughout mid-2026.
