Strategy Inc. Repurchases Nearly $1 Billion in Preferred Stock to Stabilize Value

Strategy Inc., formerly known as MicroStrategy, has repurchased approximately $950 million of its preferred stock, STRC, since late July 2026. This buyback initiative has successfully raised the stock's value from the mid-$70s back toward its $100 par value, a significant recovery for the security that trades on Nasdaq.

The company initially authorized up to $1 billion for STRC repurchases on June 29, 2026, a figure that has since been increased to $2 billion. As of mid-September, Strategy has bought back nearly 10 million shares, with a notable purchase of 1.55 million shares for $151.8 million occurring at the end of August. This activity has pushed the stock price closer to the $100 target, with recent trading in the high $90s range.

In addition to the buyback, Strategy raised the dividend rate on STRC to 12% effective July 1, 2026, providing $12 per share annually to preferred shareholders. This marks a shift in the company's capital deployment strategy, as it has not made any recent Bitcoin purchases, focusing instead on stabilizing its preferred stock value. The ongoing buyback program is funded through cash reserves and proceeds from common stock sales, allowing the company to maintain its financial strategy while supporting its preferred shareholders.
