Column N.A. Integrates Stablecoin Support to Compete in Card Issuing Market

Column N.A., a federally chartered bank in the United States, has announced the integration of USDC and USDT stablecoins into its core banking platform. This move, revealed on September 16, 2026, positions Column to compete directly with established players like Mastercard and Marqeta in the stablecoin card issuing market. The bank aims to streamline operations for fintech companies by offering a comprehensive suite of services that includes debit, credit, and prepaid card issuing capabilities, all without the need for third-party intermediaries.

The integration allows fintech clients to seamlessly transition between stablecoins and traditional currencies across various payment networks, including ACH, FedNow, and SWIFT. By owning its own ledger and banking infrastructure, Column can eliminate the complexities and costs associated with middleware solutions that typically burden fintech operations. This approach is expected to attract significant transaction volumes, as Column reported tens of billions in annualized stablecoin transactions shortly after launching its services.

Column's strategy comes at a time when competition in the stablecoin infrastructure market is intensifying. Mastercard's recent acquisition of BVNK, a stablecoin infrastructure provider, and Marqeta's partnership with BVNK highlight the growing interest in stablecoin capabilities. However, Column's unique position as a chartered bank allows it to offer a more integrated solution, potentially reducing reliance on traditional card networks and their associated costs. While Column may not replace these networks for point-of-sale transactions, its consolidation of services could present a compelling alternative for fintech companies seeking efficiency and lower operational risks.
