US House Financial Services Committee Reviews Strategic Bitcoin Reserve Bill

The House Financial Services Committee is reviewing a bill aimed at establishing a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and a Digital Asset Stockpile within the US Department of the Treasury. The legislation, known as H.R. 8957, is part of a series of measures being marked up by the committee on September 16, 2026.

Chairman French Hill highlighted that the bill would govern federally held Bitcoin and other digital assets obtained through criminal or civil forfeiture. The proposed legislation seeks to consolidate digital assets across federal agencies under the Treasury's oversight, enhancing security, transparency, and accountability in the management of these assets.

In addition to the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, the markup will address various consumer financial protections, fraud prevention measures, bank lending regulations, accountability for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and housing-related issues. This legislative effort reflects a growing focus on improving regulatory frameworks for digital assets in the United States.
