Hamas' Military Wing Advises Donors to Shift Cryptocurrency Donations from Binance

The military wing of Hamas, known as the Al-Qassam Brigades, has advised its supporters to cease using Binance for cryptocurrency donations, instead recommending platforms such as Bybit, OKX, Trust Wallet, RedotPay, and Kast. This change comes in response to increased scrutiny from U.S. authorities, particularly following the FBI's seizure of over $560,000 in cryptocurrency linked to Hamas fundraising activities.

The FBI's investigation, which has been ongoing since March 2025, revealed that funds were primarily transferred through the Tron blockchain in the form of USDT. Hamas operatives utilized rotating wallet addresses to obscure their digital activities, employing a new address for each donation cycle to avoid detection. Investigators identified a common 'gas' wallet used for transaction fees, which helped connect various wallets into a cohesive fundraising network.

Hamas has been soliciting digital asset donations since at least 2019, initially using Bitcoin before transitioning to USDT on Tron. This shift reflects a broader trend as Bitcoin's transparent ledger made it easier for blockchain analytics firms and law enforcement to trace transactions and identify users. The move away from Binance suggests that the exchange's compliance measures, which intensified after a significant settlement with U.S. authorities in late 2023, are effectively deterring some illicit activities. However, the shift to other platforms like Bybit and non-custodial wallets such as Trust Wallet raises new challenges for those exchanges in terms of regulatory compliance and user monitoring.
