US Spot Bitcoin ETFs Experience $463 Million in Outflows Amid Market Challenges

US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) faced significant net outflows totaling $462.7 million last week, marking a notable shift after three weeks of strong inflows. This decline occurred over four trading sessions, with the largest withdrawal of $282.7 million recorded on Thursday, following $120.2 million on Wednesday and $46.7 million on Tuesday. Although outflows eased to $13.2 million on Friday, this marked the first weekly reversal since mid-August.

Despite the recent withdrawals, spot Bitcoin ETFs have still managed to maintain approximately $307.3 million in net inflows for September. This follows a period where investors had injected around $3.8 billion into these funds, contributing to Bitcoin's rise above $80,000. As of the latest data, Bitcoin is trading at $78,328, reflecting a 2% increase over the past day, while Ether is priced at $2,501, remaining largely stable.

Market analysts attribute the outflows to a challenging economic environment characterized by persistent inflation, rising Treasury yields, and shifting expectations regarding the Federal Reserve's monetary policy. Markus Levin, co-founder of XYO, noted that geopolitical tensions, particularly related to the conflict in Iran, have further exacerbated inflationary pressures, negatively impacting risk assets. The upcoming Federal Reserve meeting is anticipated to be crucial, as continued redemptions post-meeting could indicate a broader trend of investors reducing their market exposure.
