Visa Seeks New Partner for Stablecoin Settlement Following BVNK Acquisition by Mastercard

Visa is actively searching for a new partner for its stablecoin settlement operations after Mastercard's recent acquisition of BVNK, a London-based stablecoin infrastructure provider. This acquisition, valued at up to $1.8 billion, was finalized on August 3, 2026, leaving Visa without its primary stablecoin infrastructure support.

Visa Ventures had previously invested in BVNK in May 2025, leading to a formal partnership announced in January 2026. BVNK's technology was integral to Visa Direct, enabling real-time stablecoin settlements across more than 130 countries. The acquisition by Mastercard grants it immediate access to BVNK's capabilities, enhancing its own payment processing services.

As of early 2026, Visa reported a $7 billion annualized stablecoin settlement run rate, reflecting a significant increase in demand. The company operates over 160 stablecoin card programs globally and has expanded its settlement pilots to nine blockchains. Any new partner for Visa will need to match BVNK's extensive geographic coverage and provide continuous settlement capabilities.
