Apollo Global Management Reports Cyber Breach Exposing Personal Data

Apollo Global Management has confirmed a cyber breach that occurred in July, during which hackers accessed its cloud systems and stole sensitive personal information. The breach lasted from July 6 to July 10, allowing unauthorized access to data including Social Security numbers, names, dates of birth, and home addresses.

The firm attributed the breach to social engineering tactics, where attackers tricked employees into revealing their login credentials. Following the incident, Apollo began notifying affected individuals around August 20 and is offering complimentary identity protection and credit monitoring services to those impacted. Notifications were also sent to the California attorney general's office as part of compliance with state data breach laws.

This incident is part of a broader trend of cyberattacks targeting major U.S. financial firms, with similar tactics reported in attacks against companies like Blackstone and CME Group. Apollo has engaged law enforcement and external cybersecurity experts to investigate the breach, which is still ongoing. As of now, there is no evidence that the stolen data has been used for fraudulent purposes or made publicly available.
