Borussia Dortmund Signs Giannis Konstantelias for €32 Million

Borussia Dortmund has officially signed Greek attacking midfielder Giannis Konstantelias from PAOK Thessaloniki in a deal valued at up to €32 million, which includes potential add-ons. The agreement also features a 15% sell-on clause that will benefit PAOK should Dortmund transfer Konstantelias in the future.

The 23-year-old has committed to a four-year contract with Dortmund, ensuring his presence at Signal Iduna Park until at least 2030. His annual net salary is reported to be around €3.2 million, excluding bonuses. Konstantelias is recognized for his dynamic playing style and versatility as a two-footed attacker, having made 122 appearances for PAOK since his debut in January 2021, during which he scored 26 goals.

Dortmund's acquisition of Konstantelias comes as a strategic move to bolster their attacking options following the departure of Karim Adeyemi. The club had previously attempted to sign Said El Mala from 1. FC Köln, but negotiations did not succeed. This transfer marks a continuation of Dortmund's interest in Greek talent, following their earlier signing of Konstantinos Karetsas.

The implications of this transfer extend beyond the field, as Borussia Dortmund is a publicly traded entity. Enhancing their squad could lead to increased matchday revenues and improved performance in the Champions League, which in turn may enhance the club's commercial appeal. The sell-on clause adds a layer of financial strategy, as it could impact future transfer profits if Konstantelias excels in the Bundesliga.
