CME Group Introduces New Cryptocurrency Index Excluding Bitcoin and Ether
CME Group has launched two new multi-asset cryptocurrency benchmarks, effective Monday. One of these is the CME CF Emerging Crypto Index, which specifically excludes Bitcoin and Ether, tracking ten alternative assets including BNB, XRP, and SOL. The second benchmark, the CME CF Crypto Market Index, includes the same ten assets along with Bitcoin and Ether.
The Emerging Crypto Index is designed to reflect the ten largest qualifying cryptocurrencies outside of Bitcoin and Ether, utilizing a free-float market-cap weighting system. This index will be reconstituted and rebalanced semiannually, with its methodology ensuring that meme coins are excluded and that a protocol-usage screen is applied based on total value locked relative to full market capitalization.
Both indices will provide real-time values calculated every second and will have daily settlement variants published at 4 p.m. in London, New York, and Singapore/Hong Kong. The Emerging Crypto Index aims to be investible and suitable for passive replication in funds and derivatives, aligning with CME's recent initiatives in the cryptocurrency market.
