Core Lightning Issues Warning to Node Operators Over Security Vulnerability

Core Lightning has issued a warning to node operators, advising them to shut down their nodes unless they upgrade to an unreleased version due to a serious security vulnerability. This alert was disseminated through Discord and highlighted by Calle, a developer from the Cashu protocol. The specific details of the vulnerability are currently under a two-week confidentiality period, and the fix has not yet been made available.

This incident marks the fourth security alert affecting Bitcoin infrastructure within the last month. Earlier alerts included a vulnerability in Coldcard firmware that resulted in the theft of approximately $114 million in Bitcoin, as well as issues reported with Boltz and BTCPay Server.

In response to the recent vulnerabilities, the Core Lightning team has noted an increase in AI-generated Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) reports over the past ten days. They are intensifying their efforts to verify and address these security concerns.
