Global Liquidity May Influence Crypto Markets in September

Utkarsh Ahuja, founder and managing partner at Moon Pursuit Capital, suggests that global liquidity could play a more significant role than the Federal Reserve's upcoming rate decision in shaping the cryptocurrency markets this September. In a recent note, Ahuja indicated that the market might experience volatility or consolidation, but a price pullback would not necessarily signal a broader downturn. Instead, he believes that weaker prices could help reset market positioning, potentially setting the stage for a stronger fourth quarter.

Ahuja emphasized the increasing importance of monetary policy, inflation, global money supply, and financial conditions in determining the direction of risk assets, including cryptocurrencies. He noted that the crypto market is particularly sensitive to changes in liquidity and risk appetite due to its global trading nature and continuous operation.

Last week, Bitcoin surpassed $80,000 for the first time since mid-May, currently trading at $77,873. This surge has been attributed to factors such as U.S. Treasury bond buybacks and growing optimism regarding crypto regulation. Ahuja also mentioned that Bitcoin's four-year cycle remains a relevant framework for market assessment, suggesting that institutional adoption may have altered the cycle's dynamics without eliminating it. He sees a potential for a more bullish environment in the fourth quarter if liquidity improves and leverage decreases.
