MicroBit Launches Hong Kong's First Combined Bitcoin and Gold ETF

MicroBit Capital Management Limited has launched Hong Kong's first exchange-traded fund (ETF) that combines Bitcoin and gold, which began trading on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on August 26. The MicroBit Bitcoin & Gold Value ETF features dual currency listings, with ticker codes 3002.HK for Hong Kong dollar-denominated shares and 9002.HK for US dollar-denominated shares.

This actively managed fund is structured as a sub-fund of the MicroBit Funds Series (Hong Kong) ETF OFC. Unlike traditional passive index trackers, the ETF employs active management with periodic rebalancing to maintain target allocations between Bitcoin and gold. Notably, it allows in-kind subscriptions and redemptions in Bitcoin for eligible investors, facilitating the creation of new ETF shares or the redemption of shares for Bitcoin directly.

MicroBit's CEO, Wilson Fung, described the ETF as a bridge between traditional finance and the Web3 ecosystem, responding to significant investor demand for stable assets during economic uncertainty. This launch follows MicroBit's introduction of low-fee spot Bitcoin and Ether ETFs in August 2025, which established the firm's infrastructure for virtual asset custody and compliance on the HKEX.

The combined Bitcoin and gold ETF simplifies investment for retail investors who seek exposure to both assets without the complexities of managing separate positions. The fund's management fee is expected to be similar to the 0.5% charged on previous offerings, although the fee structure may vary due to the complexities involved in managing two asset classes. Additionally, the in-kind subscription mechanism offers institutional investors a way to transition their Bitcoin holdings into a regulated ETF without triggering taxable events.
