Oracle Layoffs Put India on Alert After 21,000 Jobs Were Cut
Oracle layoffs are back in the news, and this time it’s India that everyone keeps asking about. The company cut thousands more jobs in the US on September 14, 2026, and it still hasn’t said much about India layoffs specifically, at least not at the time of writing. Oracle hasn’t confirmed any new job cuts tied to its India operations either, but the 2026 layoffs wave has people across the company’s India offices a bit on edge, especially with Oracle having already trimmed its global workforce by 21,000 jobs, or roughly 13 percent, during the fiscal year that ended in May.
Oracle Layoffs: India Faces New Job Cuts As AI Spending Grows

What The Latest Cuts Mean For India
In the first week of September, a Times of India report guessed that Oracle could affect around 3,000 jobs in India, as Oracle reshuffles its workforce and shifts money toward newer skills. Oracle never confirmed that number, though. After the September 14 Oracle layoffs in the US, employees have also been talking about another possible round of India layoffs at the company’s India Development Centre, even if nothing official has come out yet. And India chatter has been going for a while now. Earlier reports fueled it, putting a potential global restructuring somewhere between 7,000 and 10,000 positions, a number Oracle, again, never confirmed.
Which Roles And Teams Are At Risk
Reports say the latest Oracle layoffs touch technical, engineering, sales, and support roles in the US, including OCI security, enterprise engineering, Fusion, NetSuite sales, Oracle Health, HR technology, and data-centre compliance. Workers tied to Oracle’s Stargate operations in Abilene, Texas, took a hit too, and a thread on the r/employeesOfOracle subreddit reportedly pulled in more than 300 comments within hours, as people compared notes on the Oracle job cuts.
Thousands of Slack accounts apparently vanished as well, though nobody’s independently verified that. If Oracle job cuts do end up reaching India, similar technical and professional teams could feel the impact too, not just the usual support functions, and that’s really the core worry behind the Oracle layoffs conversation right now.
Why Oracle Is Cutting Jobs While Spending Billions On AI
Oracle had about 141,000 employees as of May 31, 2026, after cutting close to 21,000 jobs, or 13 percent of its workforce, during fiscal 2026. A year before that, headcount was sitting at around 162,000. Restructuring costs have gone up by $700 million, bringing the total to about $2.8 billion, even as Oracle is planning to spend somewhere around $90 billion to $95 billion this fiscal year on AI and cloud infrastructure. Oracle’s own numbers actually tell a story of growth running right alongside the 2026 wave, and not one of trouble.
Safra Catz, Oracle’s CEO, said:
“FY26 will be even better as our revenue growth rates will be dramatically higher.”
And that growth is part of why the Oracle layoffs 2026 story keeps raising eyebrows, since the company is trimming certain teams while, at the same time, pouring record amounts of money into data centres. India had already gone through a big round of Oracle layoffs back in March and April, when some reports put the number of affected jobs as high as 12,000, though nobody independently verified that figure either.
Oracle hasn’t said whether its India Development Centre will see new cuts, or how many roles it might affect if that happens. The company has also declined to comment on the scope of the layoffs to more than one outlet, so employees mostly end up with internal chatter instead of an actual official statement. Until Oracle confirms or denies an India-specific plan, right now the safest read on India layoffs is that nothing’s settled. So while headlines keep swirling, Oracle layoffs as a whole show no sign of slowing down.
