SEC Approves Trading of Tokenized Stocks on Automated Market Makers

The United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has granted a five-year conditional exemption allowing tokenized National Market System (NMS) stocks to be traded on permissioned automated market makers (AMMs). This decision was announced on Thursday and marks a significant development in the integration of blockchain technology within traditional financial markets.

On the same day, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) staff introduced relief measures for introducing brokers, aimed at passive software providers across the industry. These regulatory changes come shortly after the Senate's decision to block the CLARITY Act, which sought to provide clearer guidelines for cryptocurrency regulation. Following this, the chairmen of both regulatory bodies indicated their intention to establish crypto rules independently of the legislative process.

In response to the SEC's announcement, the token associated with Uniswap, a decentralized trading platform, saw a notable increase of 19.8% within 24 hours, reflecting market optimism regarding the new regulatory landscape for tokenized assets.
