Silicon Data Secures Funding to Establish GPU Pricing Benchmarks for Wall Street

Silicon Data, a startup focused on establishing financial benchmarks for AI compute resources, has successfully raised $30.5 million in Series A funding. This funding round, led by Valor Atreides AI Fund, also saw participation from CME Group and Samsung Next. The company aims to create a pricing authority for GPU rental costs, enabling institutions to benchmark, hedge, and speculate on these expenses.

The startup currently maintains nine financial-grade indices that track GPU rental rates and expenditures related to large language models. These indices aggregate data from approximately 100 platforms across more than 40 countries, covering high-demand chips such as NVIDIA’s H100 and the newer Blackwell B200 series. CEO Carmen Li has likened Silicon Data to the 'Bloomberg of GPU pricing,' emphasizing its role in providing forward curves that indicate future rental costs.

In a significant development, CME Group plans to introduce cash-settled GPU futures contracts on NYMEX starting October 5, 2026. These contracts will utilize Silicon Data’s H100 and B200 Rental Index as reference prices, allowing market participants to settle transactions in dollars rather than physical GPU shipments. This move is expected to enhance the trading of AI compute resources, similar to how crude oil is traded.

The AI infrastructure market has faced challenges due to a lack of transparency in GPU rental pricing, which can vary significantly across different providers and regions. Silicon Data's indices aim to address this issue by providing daily benchmarks that can be referenced by all market participants, thereby reducing information asymmetry and leveling the playing field for smaller AI labs.
