Ukraine Authorities Dismantled a Network of Fake Investment Platforms Used to Steal Cryptocurrency

      • Law enforcement shut down a network of fake investment services.
      • Through them, the perpetrators gained access to users’ crypto wallets using a drainer.
      • Authorities identified 62 victims from more than 20 countries.
      • More than 46 Ukrainian citizens may have been involved in the scheme.

Ukrainian law enforcement has shut down a network of fake investment platforms through which criminals stole cryptocurrencies from users in more than 20 countries. The National Police of Ukraine reported this.

According to investigators, the organizer recruited more than 46 Ukrainian citizens into the scheme. Some of the suspects created and maintained websites that mimicked investment platforms, while others communicated with potential victims.

Users were persuaded to register on the platform, connect a crypto wallet, and invest funds. In their personal accounts, they were shown fake trades and growing returns.

When victims tried to withdraw money, they were asked to connect their main wallet and confirm a test transaction. After that, a crypto drainer embedded in the site allowed the criminals to transfer assets to addresses under their control.

During the investigation, law enforcement gained access to server infrastructure in the Netherlands. The database contained client details, wallet addresses, the amounts stolen, and internal correspondence among the scheme’s participants.

Investigators identified 62 victims from Germany, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, Spain, France, the United Kingdom, Canada, Israel, and other countries.

In Kyiv and the Kyiv region, authorities carried out 34 searches. Law enforcement seized more than 100 pieces of computer equipment, more than 100 phones, 79 SIM cards, a GSM gateway, cash, and 15 vehicles.

The investigation is ongoing. The total amount of damage has not yet been disclosed.

As a reminder, we previously reported that a fake crypto academy was shut down in Ukraine.
