UN Report Says Risk of Large-Scale War Surges to Top Globally in 2026

PANews, September 16 - According to Xinhua News Agency, the United Nations released the "2026 Global Risk Report," stating that among 28 global risks, large-scale war has risen 16 places compared to the first survey in 2024, making it the risk with the largest increase. 36% of respondents believe that large-scale war could occur within one year, and 76% expect it to happen within seven years. Risks such as global financial crisis, supply chain collapse, and cyberspace security have also risen in ranking; environmental risks including biodiversity degradation, widespread environmental pollution, and scarcity of natural resources have declined in ranking, but climate change inaction, natural disasters, and natural resource shortages are still regarded as significant challenges. The report is based on a survey of approximately 1,300 respondents from governments, the business community, civil society, and the United Nations system.
