Citadel Calls for SEC Oversight on Event Contracts Linked to Public Companies

Citadel Securities has formally requested that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) reaffirm the SEC's regulatory authority over event contracts related to publicly traded companies. In a letter dated September 9, the firm expressed concerns regarding the CFTC's self-certification process for these contracts, which it believes could lead to regulatory inconsistencies.

The letter emphasizes that event contracts tied to U.S. publicly traded companies and their securities should be governed by the SEC. Citadel argues that this oversight is essential for establishing a clear and consistent regulatory framework for financial products associated with these companies. The request highlights the ongoing dialogue between major financial institutions and regulatory bodies regarding the governance of emerging financial instruments.
