Banking Associations Critique Circuit Breaker Mechanism in Clarity Act

Eight banking industry associations have expressed concerns regarding the newly introduced circuit breaker mechanism in the revised Clarity Act, which is currently under consideration by U.S. Senate leaders. In a letter addressed to the Senate, the associations argued that this mechanism does not serve as a reliable safeguard against deposit outflows, as it is likely to be triggered only after significant withdrawals have already taken place.

The associations emphasized the need for more stringent language concerning stablecoin rewards, highlighting potential loopholes that could permit interest payments on stablecoin balances. They reiterated their core demands, which remain largely unchanged, indicating a strong desire for clearer regulations in this area to ensure financial stability.

The Clarity Act aims to provide a regulatory framework for digital assets, but the concerns raised by these banking associations reflect ongoing debates about the effectiveness of its provisions in protecting consumer deposits and maintaining market integrity.
