Cryptocurrency Stocks Decline as Bitcoin Drops Ahead of Key Legislative Vote

Shares of cryptocurrency and blockchain-related companies experienced a decline in premarket trading on September 15, 2026, as Bitcoin's value fell ahead of a crucial congressional vote on the Clarity Act and an impending decision from the Federal Reserve regarding monetary policy. Bitcoin dropped by 2.9%, reaching a price of $76,833.83, while Ether saw a larger decline of 3.8%, settling at $2,471.74.

The Clarity Act aims to create a regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies, but its progress has been hindered by concerns over ethical provisions and safeguards against illicit financial activities. As investors awaited clarity on this legislation, shares of Coinbase Global, a major cryptocurrency exchange, fell by 4.7%.

Additionally, several cryptocurrency mining companies, including Riot Platforms, MARA Holdings, Hut 8, and Bit Digital, saw their shares decrease between 1.6% and 2.2%. The overall market sentiment was influenced by uncertainty surrounding U.S. cryptocurrency regulations and the Federal Reserve's upcoming interest rate decision.
