Ethereum ETFs Surpass Bitcoin in Inflows for September

In a notable shift in the cryptocurrency exchange-traded fund (ETF) landscape, Ethereum ETFs have outpaced Bitcoin ETFs in net inflows for September 2026. Through mid-month, Ethereum ETFs attracted approximately $324 million, while Bitcoin ETFs garnered around $307 million. By the end of the month, Ethereum ETFs recorded total inflows of about $445 million, slightly trailing Bitcoin's $467 million, marking a rare reversal in the typical dominance of Bitcoin in this sector.

The momentum for Ethereum ETFs can be attributed to several factors, including the appeal of staking features that allow investors to earn yields not available in Bitcoin products. This differentiation has made Ethereum more attractive to conservative institutional investors who are navigating the complexities of crypto allocations. Additionally, September's performance follows a strong showing in August, where Ethereum ETFs saw $1.75 billion in net inflows, their best monthly performance in a year, narrowing the assets-under-management gap with Bitcoin ETFs.

While Bitcoin ETFs began September with a significant inflow of $731 million on September 3, they experienced a sharp decline shortly thereafter, losing approximately $463 million over four consecutive days. In contrast, Ethereum ETFs maintained steady inflows, including a notable $216 million on September 11, the same day Bitcoin products faced substantial outflows. Major players like BlackRock and Fidelity have been instrumental in driving these trends, actively promoting their Ethereum offerings to institutional investors.
