OKX Prohibits Staff in Hong Kong from Using Anthropic’s Claude AI Following Account Suspension

OKX has instructed its employees in Hong Kong to cease using Anthropic’s Claude AI, a decision made in early August 2026 after the company faced a temporary suspension of its corporate account. Although the account has since been restored, the incident prompted OKX to implement a policy restricting access to Claude AI for staff in Hong Kong and those traveling through mainland China.

The suspension was linked to a change in Anthropic's terms of service in September 2025, which prohibits companies with over 50% ownership from unsupported jurisdictions, including China, from using Claude AI. While the restoration of OKX's account indicates that it did not violate the ownership threshold, the incident has led to a precautionary approach regarding AI tool usage.

OKX's decision aligns with similar actions taken by other major financial institutions. Goldman Sachs restricted access to Claude for its Hong Kong staff in April 2026, followed by JPMorgan in June 2026. Reports suggest that OKX has not faced significant operational challenges due to this policy change.
