Take-Two Interactive Loses $2.8 Billion in Market Value Following GTA 6 Footage Leak

Take-Two Interactive experienced a significant decline in market capitalization, losing approximately $2.83 billion in value within 48 hours after a hacker group named Cyberleek leaked gameplay footage from the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI. The company's stock price fell from around $248.13 to as low as $231.60, reflecting investor concerns ahead of the game's scheduled release on November 19, 2026.

The leak, which began on August 18, 2026, involved the posting of four gameplay videos by Cyberleek, accompanied by demands including the cessation of digital pre-orders and the inclusion of an offline mode. In response, Rockstar Games issued DMCA takedown notices for the footage but did not provide any public commentary regarding the breach, which led to speculation about the authenticity of the leaked content.

Despite the sharp decline in stock value, analysts remain optimistic about the commercial prospects of GTA 6, viewing the sell-off as a temporary volatility event rather than a fundamental issue. Take-Two's market cap still exceeds $43 billion, and the company has not altered its guidance or indicated any delays in the game's launch. Investors are expected to seek clarity on the company's cybersecurity measures during the upcoming earnings call, particularly given the nature of the breach and the company's limited public response.
