The Sandbox Suspends SAND Cross-Chain Functionality Due to Vulnerability

The Sandbox has confirmed a vulnerability affecting its SAND cross-chain bridge, specifically impacting the Base and BNB Smart Chain (BSC) networks. The incident has been fully controlled by the team, and it has been determined that less than 0.01% of the total supply of SAND tokens was involved. SAND tokens on the Ethereum and Polygon networks remain unaffected, and user wallets have not been compromised.

The vulnerability allowed an attacker to mint uncollateralized SAND tokens on the Base and BSC networks. In response, The Sandbox has suspended cross-chain functionality on these networks, isolating SAND tokens and preventing their transfer or exchange. Users are advised against buying, selling, or trading SAND on the affected networks due to liquidity issues.

The Sandbox team has conducted a snapshot prior to the incident and is currently developing a compensation plan for users affected in the liquidity pools. An investigation into the full scope of the vulnerability is ongoing, and a detailed incident report along with a technical review will be published in the future.
