UN Report Highlights Increased Risk of Large-Scale War Globally

The United Nations has released the "2026 Global Risk Report," revealing a significant rise in the perceived risk of large-scale war. The report indicates that this risk has surged 16 places since the first survey conducted in 2024, making it the most notable increase among 28 global risks assessed. Approximately 36% of survey respondents believe that a large-scale war could occur within the next year, while 76% anticipate such a conflict within the next seven years.

In addition to the heightened risk of war, the report highlights rising concerns regarding global financial crises, supply chain disruptions, and cybersecurity threats. Conversely, environmental risks, including biodiversity loss, widespread pollution, and resource depletion, have seen a decrease in their rankings. However, challenges related to climate change, natural disasters, and resource shortages remain significant, according to the findings.

The report is based on a survey of around 1,300 participants from various sectors, including government, business, civil society, and the United Nations system, reflecting a broad spectrum of perspectives on global risks.
