Anthropic to Acquire Computing Power from Hut 8's Texas Data Center

Anthropic, an artificial intelligence startup, has announced plans to acquire computing power from Hut 8's data center facility located in Texas. This acquisition is part of a larger agreement in which Anthropic will spend $35 billion to purchase computing capacity from Lambda, an AI cloud company supported by Nvidia.

Hut 8's Beacon Point data center campus will contribute to this computing capacity. The facility, which spans 525 acres, has access to up to one gigawatt of power and is expected to generate an average of $1.31 billion in annual operating income for Hut 8 once it becomes fully operational in 2028.

Hut 8 has secured two 15-year leases at its Texas campus, covering a total of 704 megawatts of power capacity, which represents a contracted value of $19.6 billion. The company's stock has seen significant growth, rising 187% over the past year to reach $78.64 per share. Hut 8 is among several Bitcoin miners that have shifted their focus to operating AI data centers.
