PANews: Ethiopia Cuts Bitcoin Miners' Power Supply by 75% Due to Hydropower Shortage, Currently Delivering Only 23% of Contracted Volume, According to Bloomberg

PANews, September 15 - According to Bloomberg, the Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) has reduced power supply to Bitcoin mining companies by approximately 75% due to declining water inflow at hydropower stations, currently delivering only 23% of the contracted electricity volume. The company stated that this measure aims to prioritize residential electricity use during the period of hydropower supply strain.

The report noted that Bitcoin mining companies contributed about 35% of EEP's revenue in the previous fiscal year, while consuming nearly one-third of Ethiopia's national power generation. The country's power generation capacity is approximately 9,730 megawatts, with its power structure heavily reliant on hydropower; the El Niño phenomenon has led to reduced water inflow into reservoirs, further exacerbating supply pressure.
