Samsung Collaborates with NVIDIA on New 8-Layer HBM4E Development

Samsung Electronics is working with NVIDIA to develop an 8-layer version of the seventh-generation high bandwidth memory, known as HBM4E. This new design significantly reduces the stacking height from the previously planned 12 and 16 layers, streamlining the memory architecture.

The collaboration aims to meet NVIDIA's speed specifications of 17-18 Gbps, which represents an increase of approximately 20% over Samsung's initial HBM4E sample speed of 14.4 Gbps. This advancement is expected to enhance performance for applications utilizing NVHBM.

The development of HBM4E is part of ongoing efforts to improve memory technology, which is crucial for high-performance computing and graphics applications. The new memory is anticipated to play a significant role in future NVIDIA products.
