World open-sources zero-knowledge identity proof toolkit ProveKit

PANews reported on September 3, according to The Block, that World (formerly Worldcoin) announced the open-sourcing of its zero-knowledge identity proof toolkit ProveKit, which had previously been used in World ID through early access. ProveKit allows users to generate cryptographic proofs directly on their phones or browsers without revealing personal data, with verifiers receiving only confirmation of specific claims. World stated that the toolkit uses local proof generation rather than delegated proving, so sensitive personal information does not need to be sent to external servers, reducing the risk of data exposure.

ProveKit has been in development for about two years, supports the Noir language, can run on standard consumer-grade hardware such as smartphones and browsers, targets 128-bit post-quantum security, and requires no trusted setup. The v1 version is already production-ready and focuses on off-chain verification, while the v2 version is under development and is expected to reduce proof size, time, and memory usage, as well as support Groth16 to improve on-chain verification efficiency.
