Charles Schwab Expands Cryptocurrency Trading to Include Solana, Avalanche, and Chainlink

Charles Schwab has announced plans to expand its cryptocurrency trading platform by adding Solana, Avalanche, and Chainlink in the coming months. This move marks a significant step beyond the previously offered Bitcoin and Ethereum, which were introduced to select retail clients three months ago. The firm did not specify exact launch dates for the new cryptocurrencies.

Joe Vietri, the head of digital assets at Charles Schwab, emphasized that this expansion will enhance clients' options for digital asset allocation. Solana is known for its fast and low-cost transactions, Avalanche facilitates the creation of custom blockchains for businesses and developers, and Chainlink provides essential data connectivity for smart contracts by linking blockchains with external information.

Clients will be able to trade these cryptocurrencies through the official website, mobile app, and the thinkorswim platform, with a transaction fee set at 0.75%. This development allows clients to directly purchase cryptocurrencies, a capability that was previously limited to exposure through exchange-traded products and stocks of cryptocurrency-related companies.
