Nvidia Commits $105 Billion in Credit Support for OpenAI Data Center in Ohio

Nvidia has announced a commitment of up to $105 billion in credit support to assist OpenAI in leasing a large data center campus in Pike County, Ohio. This facility, developed by SB Energy, a subsidiary of SoftBank, is part of a project known as the PORTS-Pike Technology Campus, which aims to achieve a capacity of 8 gigawatts over the next two decades.

The agreement, revealed on August 17, includes credit support for land, power, and infrastructure elements of the Ohio facility. Additionally, Nvidia is making a $1.5 billion equity investment directly into SB Energy, securing its position as the exclusive chip and infrastructure provider for the campus. The facility will utilize Nvidia's full-stack DSX AI factory platform, ensuring that all silicon used for OpenAI's operations will be Nvidia-branded.

The initial phase of the project targets 4.25 gigawatts of capacity, with plans for expansion that could double this figure. Operations are expected to commence in 2028. The initiative is projected to create approximately 35,000 construction jobs by 2032 and around 2,500 long-term positions once the campus is fully operational. An $80 million benefits fund will also be established to support the local community, marking a significant economic shift for the region, which was previously home to a decommissioned uranium enrichment facility.
