Nvidia Commits Up to $105 Billion for OpenAI Data Center in Ohio

Nvidia has announced a commitment of up to $105 billion in lease payments for a significant data center project in Ohio, which is being developed by SB Energy, a subsidiary of SoftBank. This investment will also include an additional $1.5 billion directed towards SB Energy, enabling the company to secure up to 8 gigawatts of AI computing capacity at the new facility.

The Ohio campus, located in Pike County, will initially provide 4.25 gigawatts of capacity, with operations set to commence in phases starting in 2028. SB Energy will be responsible for the construction, ownership, and operation of the campus under a 20-year lease agreement. Nvidia will supply the necessary AI computing infrastructure and offer credit support for land, power, and construction related to the initial development.

In addition to the initial capacity, Nvidia has the option to secure an additional 3.75 gigawatts. The project is projected to generate approximately 35,000 construction jobs by 2032 and around 2,500 permanent jobs once operational. This initiative follows a previous $1 billion investment from OpenAI and SoftBank aimed at enhancing data center and power infrastructure for the Stargate AI initiative.
