Coinbase Introduces 10x Leveraged Bitcoin Contracts in Canada

Coinbase has launched Canada's first regulated 10x leveraged Bitcoin contracts, marking a significant development for retail traders in the region. The platform went live on September 2, offering 23 crypto futures contracts that include Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana, among others, through its CFTC-registered derivatives arm, Coinbase Financial Markets.

Prior to this launch, Canadian traders seeking leveraged crypto futures had limited options, primarily relying on offshore platforms with uncertain regulatory oversight. The introduction of these contracts provides a domestic, regulated alternative, ensuring compliance with Canadian securities law and offering standardized contract terms and transparent pricing.

Coinbase's fee structure is competitive, starting at 0.02% per trade and $0.11 per contract, indicating a strategy to capture market share by operating on thin margins initially. The inclusion of commodity futures alongside crypto contracts positions Coinbase as a multi-asset derivatives platform, enhancing its competitiveness against traditional brokerages.
